Under Typo3 8.7 the debugging / error messages are strangely no longer switched on. In the event of an exception, you only receive "Oops, an error occurred. Code:xxx". Unfortunately, you are not told how the error occurred.

To display the error, a Typoscript must be added to the Setup:

page.config.contentObjectExceptionHandler = 0

Now the familiar display appears again, showing the errors.

If nothing happens, the entry under typo3conf/LocalConfiguration.php

the entry under

'SYS' => [

'displayErrors' => 1,

must be added.

Version: <= 12.xx

One more tip. If an error occurs and you have identified it, e.g:

Version incompatibility with extensions
Configuration problems
Missing markers in the Fluid template
PHP problems
etc.

it is advisable to delete the cache after a change has been made.

You can find this under:

root directory: typo3temp

Simply rename it and delete it later via the SSH terminal. You can then have TYPO3 recreate the directory with its subfolders by calling it up after logging in:

Administration tools / Environment. There you can check and create directories.

In general, I would switch on the debug mode in TYPO3 via:

Settings → Configuration Presets → Debug settings

and select Debug there. After going live, switch back to live mode.
